This week’s Bountiful Basket included a few new items including okra and asian pears. I love asian pears, they are crisp like an apple and sweet like a pear. In fact, my mother-in-law has an asian pear tree in her backyard, so I am spoiled by these beauties in the fall. Okra is kind of a tricky vegetable. Of course it is tasty as a fried food, and I enjoy a good okra pickle, but what else can you do with it? Steaming and sauteeing okra seems to make it a bit slimy. Maybe add chopped okra to a pot of soup? If you have any okra tips, please share them in the comments.
Our Bountiful Basket for $16.50 included:
-2 boxes seedless concord grapes (1 was an extra from volunteering)
-4 asian pears
-5 yellow onions
-1 bunch celery
-1 acorn squash
-1 head romaine lettuce
-2 heads broccoli
-1 brown bag full of okra
We also got a 9-grain bread pack of 5 loaves for $10. Oh, how I love this bread!
