Lunging for a Cure – I need your help!

Meet Phil.
Meet Phil’s adorable family.
Phil is battling a blood cancer called multiple myeloma.  Have you heard of it?  I hadn’t before Phil was diagnosed in 2008.  Actually, myeloma still comes up as a misspelled word with a red squiggly line under it when I type it out!  Thankfully, since being diagnosed, Phil and his wife Cassie have been making it their mission to not only kick this cancer, but to educate and share their journey through their blog Multiple Myeloma for Dummies.

They also started the Cancer Kicker Foundation which has three main goals:
1. Inspire others to dominate cancer & life
2. Grow awareness of multiple myeloma
3. End myeloma (by raising $$ for research)

Because I love Phil and his family and their DOMINATE attitude, I want to help.

My part:
I pledge to complete 5000 lunges by December 31, 2010.  I will do so in a number of different ways and will chronicle my progress on the Lunging for a Cure Facebook page.

Your part:
I am asking you to come along with me by “liking” the Facebook page and inviting all of your friends to do the same.  Support and cheering would be great too.  And if you are able to give a donation towards the cause, I would be forever grateful.

The goal:
I have set a pretty high goal, but I believe in aiming high.  My goal is to raise $5000 for multiple myeloma research at the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center by December 31st.  All donations are tax deductible.  I will have a link set up on the Facebook page in a few days where you can donate directly to the program.

So for now, please make sure to “like” the Facebook page and send it to all of your friends.

Thank you for your time and for helping this incredible family.  If you have any questions, please ask!

1,2,3….Dominate!

We love what you're doing Alysa! As you know, this is the same cancer John's mom has been battling for about 3 years now. It's a terrible thing, but they are making great strides in the treatment of it!

What a great idea! I "liked" the Facebook page, and I'm praying for Phil (even though he's a Michigan fan…). You're such a great person to go to such lengths for such an amazing cause. Good luck on the challenge!

What an important cause. I "like" the FB page. My oldest sister died from Leukemia when she was three, and cancer, and especially blood cancers, are always on my mind. Thanks for doing this!

Gina- thanks for looking past my school colors! Prayers are so needed. I think they are the main thing that sustain us day to day…and they aren't coming from us. So thanks. -Phil
