This Week’s Bounty

$16.50 Conventional Basket

What a bountiful week this was!  My Bountiful Basket was bursting with color, the Mexican pack was stuffed and the pumpkin was HUGE!  I was especially excited to see parnsips and pomegranates in my basket as well as avocados in the Mexican pack.

If you have never cooked with parsnips before, you can use them as a substitute for carrots in most recipes.  You can also peel, chop and roast them with olive oil and herbs or steam and mash like potatoes.  Small parsnips don’t require much prep work but larger ones need to have the core removed (2 of mine were small and 2 were large)  If you have any parsnip tips, please leave a comment!

The conventional basket included:
-4 green pears
-5 green apples
-3 pomegranates
-5 bananas
-2 bags red grapes (1 extra from volunteering)
-1 pineapple
-4 parsnips
-2 heads broccoli
-5 tomatoes on the vine
-1 head romaine
-1 bunch spinach
-8 small yams
Mexican Pack $7.50
The Mexican pack this week provided everything you need to make
If you haven’t made it yet, this is the perfect time to give it a try!
The Mexican pack included:
-1 bunch cilantro
-10 tomatillos
-4 avocados
-8 red chili peppers
-2 grey squash
-2 serrano peppers
-1 bulb garlic
-2 large yellow onions
-1 bunch Mexican green onions
-5 limes
Pumpkin $3.50
The biggest surprise was our giant pumpkin!  When I ordered it, the form said that my pumpkin would be about the size of a basketball.  As you can see, this one is much bigger than that!  Joe walked in to see it sitting on the table and asked if we could eat it for lunch (like he could eat anything that big).  I had planned to roast it, but I am now thinking that we will use this as our carving pumpkin for Halloween.

That guacamole looks so good! And I love the pumpkin photo. It's as big as he is!

Thanks Janel! I heard that you make a mean guacamole too.
