For Natural Easter Egg Dyes there are a number of ways you can extract the color from the produce.
You can juice your ingredients, or chop them small and boil them in meager amounts of water. You can also mash the vegetables at the end to get the rest of the color out, then strain it!
The color recipes are as follows:
* Beets Red / Purple / Pink
* Carrots Yellow (add turmeric or cumin when you boil the carrots to enhance the color!)
* Coffee Grounds Brown
* Blueberries Blue
* Red Onion Skins Red / Purplish (using a lot) Violet (using a little)
* Yellow Onions Skins Tan/Orange
Put the vegetable juice or vegetable water in a non-reactive pan with vinegar. Use 1 tbsp vinegar for each cup of vegetable liquid. Boil the eggs in it for 10 to 15 minutes or until you like the color!

Have fun! Experiment and mix it up! Remember there is no right way to do this. Let the kids play with it! Play and have fun with it along with them.
As for the focaccia—We have a party to go to this afternoon and I think I am going to serve one of the loaves with a side of olive oil and raspberry balsamic vinegar for dipping.
Do you have any recipe ideas to share?
Have you ever dyed eggs naturally?

hey!
We got the same 3 things this week: reg basket, focaccia, and egg kit.
Quick question….have you had issues with your bananas the last month or so. Due to work sch, I have only been able to get baskets couple times a month. NONE of my bananas, for the last 3 times I have gotten them, have ever ripened or been edible. It is very annoying to tell the kids, "just wait a few more days" and they go from green to black…and the ones that start to slightly yellow, I open and they are hard as a rock and sooooo unbelievably bitter and not edible and they end up getting tossed! Such a shame (because we love bananas at our house) an money down the drain
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem or has an ripening tricks (I tried putting a few in a bag with apples- didnt work. And I tried putting a few inthe fridge- just turned black).
One positive…our quick pickles are pickling as we speak! And I still have to get around to fire roasting the 12 green chilis we got in last weeks basket- hopefully this weekend! I am thinking green chili turkey or bison burgers/sliders, with a huge garden salad and pickles on the side!
Burgers served on the focaccia of course!
Meg-I always have to let my banans sit for a few days and they don't ever really turn grocery store yellow. Sally and Tanya have said that the ones we get are not gassed like the ones in the grocery store. The gas helps them to look yellow and ripen quicker. Hopefully you can find something that works. Some people have said that they take a few weeks!
I got less apples and then a cantaloupe and lemons instead of mangoes. That focaccia bread looks soooo good!
Thanks for the quick pickles recipe. I can't wait to give it a try. Bountiful Baskets has been such a blessing to my family. Check out my blog for recipe ideas using items from your basket. http://www.4peatssake.wordpress.com
Meg, yes we have had that problem!! This week our bananas were good, but the last few weeks they have not ripened at all. Frustrating!
We had veggie burgers on the focaccia. So good! I think I am going to make croutons with the other loaf.
Thanks for stopping by Callie! Let me know how the pickles turn out!
