The Kids Cook Monday – fANNEtastic granola bars

Breakfast, Cooking With Kids June 6, 2011
Last week, Anne from fANNEtastic food posted a recipe for Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Granola Bars.  I saw them and immediately knew that Joe and I should get busy whipping up a batch.

As we gathered the ingredients, Joe had to give them each a taste to make sure they were ok.  He decided that he didn’t like the walnuts and wanted to use pumpkin seeds instead.
The egg was a little tough to crack because it was so fresh,
but Joe had no problem stirring the wet ingredients together.
When I told Joe that we would be making granola bars, he said, “Do we make them out of granola?  We have granola from the Love Bus!”
He had fun measuring out all of the dry ingredients.
Especially the dark chocolate chips.
Leila woke up from her nap just in time to watch us finish up.  The poor girl was sick last week, you can probably tell by her red cheek.
Our granola bars came out beautifully!
We ate them up pretty quickly and are already planning the next batch.  This will be a fun recipe to play around with.  I’m thinking that coconut would be an outstanding addition.  What would you change about them?

How fun! So glad you guys enjoyed the recipe. I always love when families cook together – such a good way to get kids into nutrition and food early on!

Good idea on the coconut, too!

Thanks for the wonderful recipe Anne! Cooking with my kids is so important to me because they are so much more open to trying new things when they are a part of making them.

Those look amazing! Aud and I will make them tonight. She, and lil sis Mo, love granola bars and would eat me out of house and home if I would just buy more. Our attempts in the past to make them have been alright but this recipe sounds so easy!

These bars look amazing! I am going to have to give them a try. I love how the kids were involved. Soo cute!

These look great, I've actually never made granola (strange). I am obsessed with Purely Elizabeth granola lately, it's a little bit of a problem. Enjoy Mamavation.
