Thanks Giving Inspired Fridays: Week 4

Jeff and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary this month. Such a big milestone has caused me to stop and reflect on the past ten years and of course the very beginning.  What I really treasure about the first three years of our relationship  is the stack of letters that I have from Jeff.

You see, we were dating before email was something that you checked every day, and way before there was such a thing as text messaging.  We did have cell phones but the minutes were limited, and we had very different schedules.  About a month after we started dating, Jeff left to play pro baseball.  I was in Oklahoma working at Chili’s and getting my nutrition degree (there’s an oxymoron for you), and Jeff was playing baseball in Virginia.  Because long phone conversations were rare, we started writing letters.  I remember going to the mailbox to see if he had written, and how my heart would pound when I saw my name in his handwriting.

Jeff and I only dated for eight months before he asked me to marry him.  Five of those eight months were spent apart.  Writing was how we got to know each other.  And now it is such a gift to have these letters to look back on and read.

So today I am thankful.

Thankful that we are old enough to have dated before emails or texts.

Thankful for a man who thought enough of me to write.

Thankful for this stack of letters.

Congrats on the 10 years!! Those letters are wonderful memories. With technology, I don’t think a lot of things are “saved” as much.

      Thank you Lori!

Happy 10 years! The dating relationship with my hubs was also spent mostly separated (by 6,000 miles!) and the journals and letters we wrote to each other during that time are my prized possessions. Although it was difficult to be apart for so long, I now consider it a blessing that we have the history of our relationship recorded in the written word. Not many people can say that!

Aww I love it! I have every card my husband has ever given me and lately he’s been saving the little post-it notes with sweet messages I leave him. Even though our relationship has always been in the same state, I still love hand written anything over electronic messaging.

This is so sweet! Congrats on your 10 year anniversary.

Congratulations! That’s so neat that you have all those letters. I write letters to my grandparents, because they live in a different state and don’t have a computer. My grandpa passed away two weeks ago, and it was really nice to be able to read through those letters. It’s something I plan to keep forever!

awww how awesome, congrats! You guys look so young! My husband and I have been married about 6 months, but were together 5 years before. I loved all his hand written cards. Letters are so much better! I am thankful it is FRIDAY! 😉
