Our Weekend in 3 Words

by inspiredrd on July 29, 2012

Pajamas.

Olympics.

Thunderstorms.

In other words, just what I needed.

For a family who doesn’t watch much TV, we’ve had NBCOlympics.com streaming live all morning and into the afternoon.  The kids are leaping and doing somersaults while watching gymnastics, practicing their dives while watching volleyball, and shouting “You’s A!”  We even spread a blanket on the floor in the living room for picnics.  We don’t want to miss a minute.

I enjoyed a few days unplugged from social media and plugged into random sports like fencing and whitewater kayaking.

So what about you?

Are you as glued to the Olympics as we are?  What’s been your favorite moment so far?  Are you watching live online or tape delayed at night?  Were you happy to see Mr. Bean in the opening ceremony?  Did you secretly hope the Queen would say “Happy Hunger Games?”

My favorite moment so far may have been Mr. Bean’s appearance. lol. I used to watch his british comedies with my Dad growing up. Brought back great memories–and it was a cute addition to the opening ceremonies.

We have definitely setup camp in our livig room. Grandma stayed the weekend and we left the air bed up. Diving, swimming, and gymnastics have us glued to the tv. Watching our local NBC channel but definitely catching up on some of those missed events during the local news hours.

We have had the Olympics on non-stop since the Opening Ceremonies. Speaking of Opening Ceremonies, I don’t know why people have been complaining about them; I thought they were very well-done! The music, the energy, the choreography…all outstanding! Mr. Bean was hilarious! We’ve been helping our kids with their gymnastics, too. They’ve been doing somersaults and tumbling all over the house. I can’t wait to get them back into the pool now, too. They’re really excited to go off the diving boards, now. :-)

    Go USA!

Trying to watch 15 hours recorded don Saturday wasn’t as hard as I thought in just a few hours. I don’t remember ever seeing synchronized diving before…… Having just been in London 2 weeks and seeing all the pregames prep makes this Olympics even more powerful for me. Yes, I’m hooked.

Since the opening ceremony on Friday evening, NBC has been on in our house. I feel lazy, but all the events and stories are so captivating. I love all the learning that comes from the Olympics. They really are a great teaching tool.
