One year of giving thanks

withcoachbob

One year ago, I spent two weeks unplugged.  I allowed myself to slow down and just be.  Out of that time came the idea for Project 365 Thanks: Giving thanks at the end of each day no matter what.  Good day, bad day, happy, sad, excited, frustrated.  No matter what.

I posted my gratitude using the hashtag #365thanks on Twitter and Facebook, sometimes Instagram too.  Some of you joined me.  Then some of you started to fizzle out on the everyday thing, and eventually I did too.

I kept up with Thankful Thursday posts all year and for that I am thankful.  Taking time each week to reflect on gratitude did wonders for me, especially during the “I feel like crap” weeks.

Looking back, I can tell the practice of giving thanks on a regular basis has changed me for the better.  As hoped, I now find myself to be a more generous giver, a better listener (sometimes) and better equipped to recognize those times in my life when I need to slow down, pause, take a breath.  I still have a long way to go, but I think that’s to be expected.  Maturity is a lifelong pursuit, isn’t it?

I’d like to make a recommitment to give thanks each day for 2013.  I’d love you to join me.  Maybe we can make it all year this time?  Leave a comment on this post, then start using the hashtag #365thanks when you post your thanks at the end of each day.  Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, wherever.

I will also be accepting Thankful Thursday guest posts.  If the practice of giving thanks has inspired you, share it with us!  Submit guest posts to inspiredrd<at>gmail.com.

Feel free to grab a Thankful badge too.  Let’s inspire each other to live a more thankful life in 2013!

I’m thankful for you, Alysa. You’ve grown in vulnerability and authenticity through your writing so much this year. Thanks for challenging me to be thankful in all circumstances. I love you and your precious family!

I am going to join in and not fizzle out this time 🙂

Well, I’m @healthierheath on twitter and you should already know that I am joining you this year since we have been tweeting! Love your site, your openness, your willingness to share your struggles in health because frankly, we need to share that more. The silent pain people don’t even realize. So here’s to being thankful for 365 days!
