What is Your One Word for 2013?

by inspiredrd on January 2, 2013

This year, I’ve decided to participate in One Word 365.

Forget New Year’s Resolutions. Scrap that long list of goals you won’t remember three weeks from now anyway. Choose just one word.

One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live. One word that you can focus on every day, all year long.

It will take intentionality and commitment, but if you let it, your word will shape you and your year. It will guide your decisions and help you grow.

Discover the big impact one word can make.

One word.

365 days.

A changed life.

One word.  Just one word for the entire year.  Something to focus on, something that will change you.

For an indecisive person like me, choosing just one word is painful.  Really?  Only one?  What if I choose the wrong one?

I went through a list of words in my head.  Any of them could work.  Hope, health, surrender, joy, give…my mind was racing with possibilities.

That’s when it hit me.  My one word for 2013 is exactly what this anxiety-prone, over-achieving, mind-racing mom needs: Quiet.

When that word came to me, I realized just how little quiet I actually allow into my life.  Every spare moment is filled with something.  Cooking, cleaning, writing, reading, talking, texting, typing, sighing.  And even when I am outwardly quiet, my mind is SHOUTING at me.  Thought, reminders, guilt-trips (Moms, you know what I’m talking about), ideas, lists, prayers.  When am I ever truly quiet?

I’m not sure how this will look yet, but I’m excited to have this one word to focus on. I’m hopeful it will remind me to slow down, to not fill every second with noise, and to allow myself some time each day to sit in the quiet.

If you’d like to join in and choose your One Word 365, click here.  You can even have a free button made (like the one above) by clicking here.  And if you write a blog post about it, you can link up here.

I’d love to hear your word.  If you choose one, leave a comment below!

    This is a great word.
As for me, I’m going for “strength” in 2013. I’ve set goals to help build me a stronger body, mind and relationships! Happy New Year alysa

So excited to see how your word ‘quiet’ will weave into the fabric of your year! I’m choosing ‘joy’ and look forward to seeing it in action this year!

    Love you!

I’m going with “assertive” – for so long I thought I was indecisive, but I’m starting to realize that I know exactly what I want (most of the time), but it often goes against the grain and I get self-conscious in expressing it. So I’m going to stand up for myself this year – my beliefs, my values, my goals, all of it. At least, I’m going to try.

I’ve set my word as “more.” My focus is on three SMART goals that incorporate the word “more” – http://goo.gl/K2eQR
I did this without knowing about One Word 365, but I love the mindfulness of this notion!

My one word is ADVOCATE for my 13 year old son Kai witth Celiac Disease. Kai will be returning to public school next year and I will need to advocate for him for many things related to CD and school.

My one word is “focus”. Focus on God and his will instead of my own wants and this world. =)
