This year, I’ve decided to participate in One Word 365.
Forget New Year’s Resolutions. Scrap that long list of goals you won’t remember three weeks from now anyway. Choose just one word.
One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live. One word that you can focus on every day, all year long.
It will take intentionality and commitment, but if you let it, your word will shape you and your year. It will guide your decisions and help you grow.
Discover the big impact one word can make.
A changed life.
One word. Just one word for the entire year. Something to focus on, something that will change you.
For an indecisive person like me, choosing just one word is painful. Really? Only one? What if I choose the wrong one?
I went through a list of words in my head. Any of them could work. Hope, health, surrender, joy, give…my mind was racing with possibilities.
That’s when it hit me. My one word for 2013 is exactly what this anxiety-prone, over-achieving, mind-racing mom needs: Quiet.
When that word came to me, I realized just how little quiet I actually allow into my life. Every spare moment is filled with something. Cooking, cleaning, writing, reading, talking, texting, typing, sighing. And even when I am outwardly quiet, my mind is SHOUTING at me. Thought, reminders, guilt-trips (Moms, you know what I’m talking about), ideas, lists, prayers. When am I ever truly quiet?
I’m not sure how this will look yet, but I’m excited to have this one word to focus on. I’m hopeful it will remind me to slow down, to not fill every second with noise, and to allow myself some time each day to sit in the quiet.

I’d love to hear your word. If you choose one, leave a comment below!
