Celiac Guilt

Celia Guilt

Celiac guilt, have you ever had it?

Joe missed a birthday party today because I was sleeping off a gluten hangover.

My parents who keep a gluten-free kitchen just for me are pulling packages out of the trash trying to figure out what in the world could have made me sick at their house the past two Saturdays.  Everything is gluten-free.  There is absolutely no reason I should be sick right now.

My head is a mess and my stomach is, well, yucky.  My body tries to sweat out the poison at night which means I don’t get much sleep because HOT.  I’M SO FLIPPIN’ HOT.

When this happens I can’t help feeling guilty.  Guilty for being a burden on loved ones who are so careful to make sure I don’t get glutened.  Guilty for being a mom who needs to take naps.  Guilty for being a wife who can’t maintain a good conversation.

I know it’s not my fault.  But I can’t help feeling guilty.

Do you ever feel guilty for your health issues?

Hi Alysa- I am so sorry you had such a terrible weekend…very frustrating. I was wondering if you have considered being tested for Lymes Disease.(You get it through a tick bite.) A good friend of mine had very similar symptoms as you describe and could not figure out what was causing such flare ups. She went to a natural-path (sp?) who tested her for it, and sure enough it was positive. One of the ways she helps curb her flare ups is by eating gluten free, but that is only part of her treatment…I know this isn’t much of a confession, just more of a concern…hang in there girl 🙂 So sorry

Aww, that’s a bummer and sounds like a tough weekend. I can understand about feeling guilty, but try not to think of it that way (which I know is easier said than done). Hope you’re feeling better really soon!

Oh I know the feeling – more times than I am willing to admit I’ve had to ask my parents to come get me from the hospital after an epipen necessary eating accident. Feel horrible for scaring the, and having them have to cancel what they would have done to come get me….and pay for hospital parking. And it is always worse if I was at their house and although careful something happens. Hope you figured it out and feel better soon.
