What I’m Reading – March

To keep on track with my goal to read 50 books this year, I started a monthly posting series titled “What I’m Reading.” As I share what I’ve been keeping on my nightstand, I would love to hear what you’ve been digging into as well. Scroll down to the bottom and leave a comment. What have you been reading lately?

Here are the books I read in March:

14. The Fringe Hours by Jessica Turner

In The Fringe Hours, Jessica Turner gives you the knowledge, tools, and permission to figure out what brings you joy and how to do more of it throughout small pockets of your day. I love the permission part of it because moms are really good at feeling guilty, especially when they want to do something for themselves or (gasp) ask for help. One of my favorite tips I picked up from this book is to carry cards around with me so I can write notes when I’m sitting at soccer practice or waiting to pick Leila up from dance. Something simple that brings joy to others (and me).

15. Searching for Sunday: Loving, Leaving, and Finding the Church by Rachel Held Evans

I’m on the launch team for this book, which means I get to read it early then tell you all about it. I will be doing so in an upcoming post, but I can tell you that I enjoyed the honesty of this book and related to Rachel’s journey in many ways. You can pre-order Searching For Sunday here. The release date is April 14th.

16. For the Love: Fighting for Grace in a World of Impossible Standards by Jen Hatmaker

I am also on the launch team for this book, and FOR THE LOVE I could not put it down. More to come about Jen Hatmaker’s newest release, but I can tell you that it’s equal parts kick-you-in-the-pants-free-your-soul-fantastic and laugh-your-socks-off-hilarious. Pre-order your copy here. Release date is August 18th.

17. Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford

Apparently I put this book on my wish list at some point, and my dad got it for me on BookMooch. I have no recollection of ever seeing the book or asking for it, but THANK GOODNESS I DID. From Amazon: “Set during one of the most conflicted and volatile times in American history, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet is an extraordinary story of commitment and enduring hope. In Henry and Keiko, Jamie Ford has created an unforgettable duo whose story teaches us of the power of forgiveness and the human heart.” The entire time I read this book, I kept wishing I was watching a movie. The characters were strong, the story was beautiful, and I just wanted to see it. Highly recommend.

18. Nobody’s Cuter Than You: A Memoir about the Beauty of Friendship by Melanie Shankle

I’ll be posting a full review about this book (and a giveaway!) on Monday, so come back for that. But I can tell you that I devoured it. Ate up every word. Pre-order this for yourself and all of your girlfriends. Nobody’s Cuter Than You releases on April 7th.

 Currently reading:

The Sacred Year by Michael Yankoski

    I love this monthly post.

I am currently reading through Louisa May Alcott’s entire bibliography in order published. The plan is to get to visit her house in Concord this summer.
I also am currently reading The Art of Work by Jeff Goins, and just finished And Now I Choose by Tammy Hodge and Trigger Warnings by Neil Gaiman. I am loving all this reading.

I just heard about the Fringe Hours and thought it was a fascinating concept! Even without kids, I feel like I get in a rut of fulfilling obligations and not making time for myself. Right now I’m reading Harvest (Field Notes from a Far Flung Pursuit of Real Food), and have Packing Light (Thoughts on Living with Less Baggage) on my nightstand to read next.
