Not an endorsement? (Updated)

Last week, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics announced a partnership between Kraft and Kids Eat Right. Specifically that the Kids Eat Right logo will now appear on packages of Kraft American Singles. The Academy has fully denied that this is an endorsement of a product, even though Kraft told The New York Times that it totally is. According to AND, the logo simply shows that Kraft is a proud supporter of…

The keys to successful weight loss (plus, a giveaway!)

My RD friend Lauren Slayton released The Little Book of Thin yesterday, and I couldn’t wait to tell you all about it.  I actually read it a few weeks ago and what I found in between the bright orange covers was some of the best diet advice I’ve ever heard.   I’ve always been drawn towards Lauren’s cheeky no-nonsense writing on her Foodtrainers blog, and this book is no different.…

And really, it all comes down to this: Choosing to eat gluten-free because it…

Statement of Concern

Recently, I cofounded a group called Dietitians for Professional Integrity.  Since then, I’ve had a few dietitians tell me how sad they are that I’m part of this group, I guess because they think we are against dietitians.  That could not be further from the truth. And I’ll be honest, I hate confrontation.  Hate it.  But there is a time to speak up, and that time is now. Below is…

Breaking News Alert! RDs splurge too!

I’m not sure if you heard the breaking news or not, so brace yourselves: The First Lady went to lunch and ordered a cheeseburger. AND fries. AND a shake. AND a diet soda. The reason Michelle Obama is getting so much attention about this meal is because she is an advocate for child nutrition and healthy living.  That got me thinking.  As a dietitian, I am also an advocate for…
