Mother’s Day Surprises

I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day!  Mine was a whole weekend filled with surprises.  On Friday, my dad was planning to teach Jeff how to do ribs on the smoker.  Since that is a pretty long process, my mom and I decided to take the kids to the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum.  I thought Joe would enjoy looking at the trains.  We got there a little early, so we walked around and looked at the train and the statues.

At 10:00, we went back to the door and it was still locked, so we waited a little longer…still no sign of the museum opening.  A little disappointed, we decided to head to the Tucson Children’s Museum instead.  We still have no idea why the Transportation Museum was closed that morning.  The Children’s Museum ended up being a blast for both kids.  Leila enjoyed dancing and playing on the firetruck.  Joe had the most fun in the train room. He could have stayed there all day ringing the bell.

For lunch, we stopped at Little Cafe Poca Cosa downtown on Stone & Alameda.  If you live in Tucson, you have to check this place out.  The restaurant is loud and bustling, they only accept cash, the service is great, and the food is outstanding.  I had chicken with chocolate mole (mo-lay) sauce.

After lunch, we arrived home to my first surprise–a raised bed in the backyard!  I have always wanted a garden.  I can’t wait to get started planting!

Then, when I was still soaking in my first surprise, my second one walked around the corner…my sister from Texas surprised both my mom and me!  We had no idea she was coming in for the weekend.  We all had so much fun hanging out, cooking out and playing with the kids.

My final surprise came on Sunday night.  My parents invited us over for a Mother’s Day dinner, but wouldn’t tell me what was on the menu.  I was so excited when I walked in and saw these:

Have you ever seen anything so beautiful?  They were huge and delicious!  He and my mom also made risotto cakes to go with the king crab legs.  What a great dinner!

Thank you family for making this Mother’s Day wonderful in so many ways.  I love you all!
