Fresh Photographs

I recently took part in a photography show called the Tucson Grid Project 3 put on by Second Mile. Each year, those who want to be involved in the show choose a word from a list then take pictures in Tucson that represent that word. This year my word was “Fresh.” At first, I assumed that I would be taking lots of food photos from different farmers markets, but I ended up taking more flower photos with so much of the desert in bloom. Here are my photographs from the show using a normal point-and-click digital camera. I ended up winning the award for “Best use of Color.” I enjoy the Tucson Grid Project because it gives us a unique perspective on our city. If you live in Tucson and would like more information on how to get involved next year, feel free to comment and I will point you in the right direction!

Fresh tubercles on a cholla cactus. Got a few of these stuck in my shoe to get this shot!

Fresh yellow and gold wildflowers like these shot up all over the city for only a couple of weeks. These were so beautiful that I made a u-turn in my car to get a shot of them!

Fresh paint at a Habitat for Humanity worksite.

Fresh flowers and herbs at Trader Joe’s. I bought a basil plant here.

I took the back road home one day and was caught breathless by a one-mile stretch of these fresh bright blue wildflowers. It was the only place in the city that I saw them this spring, and they only lasted for two weeks. I saw many people pulling over to capture the beautiful images of these flowers.

Fresh chiles rellenos at the Park Place Farmer’s Market. I had a nice chat with this man until Joe decided to bite Leila’s finger. The relleno sample was very tasty though!

Fresh purple lantana buds. Each winter, lantana plants look almost dead. Brown and brittle. But each spring, fresh buds appear among the brown tangled sticks and the plants burst into color.

Fresh tea at the Park Place Farmer’s Market. This photo seemed to be the crowd favorite of my collection. Each tin holds the whole ingredients to one of the tea flavors. I like the look of them all lined up together.

Ooh, your farmers markets are out of this world. Lucky! And I'm dying to know what you ended up doing with your "bountiful basket." Even unprepared, it looked so, so delicious.

Hey Leslie! In the near future I plan to do a list at the end of the week of what I made with my basket. If I can get the photography thing figured out, I will post recipes too! Thanks for the comment šŸ™‚
