I have never considered myself to have a green thumb. Living in Arizona, I have enjoyed the benefits of having plants and flowers on a drip system so that I don’t have to remember to water them. I have been wanting to try planting a garden however, and since I was given one for Mother’s Day I decided to give it a go.
First I planted a yellow pear tomato because I remember eating those straight off the plant at my Grandma’s house when I was little. I also added an heirloom tomato, a purple tomatillo and basil. The heirloom tomato and basil because I love caprese salad, and the purple tomatillo because it is fun and different.
So far I have remembered to water and prune my plants, and they seem to be doing well. I have a few drip lines in the garden, but I think I may need to add some more.
Joe is having fun digging and planting with me. I am excited to involve him in this process of growing our own food. He can even see the garden out his bedroom window. I will keep you updated on our food and failures. Here’s hoping for a green thumb!
