This week, when I picked up my Bountiful Basket, I noticed a white plastic grocery bag in the vegetable basket. I opened it up and found big beautiful brussels sprouts! Excited, I said “Yes! Brussels sprouts!” Looking shocked, the lady next to me said, “Really?” Yes, I know brussels sprouts are maybe the most hated vegetable. But I want to challenge you to prepare them in the way that most hated vegetables taste the best: roasted with olive oil and salt. If you have never had them that way, you have to give it a try.
So here is a list of our haul this week:
-1 head romaine lettuce
-2 butternut squash
-6 ears corn
-7 tomatoes
-1 small bag baby carrots
-20 brussels sprouts
-9 small limes
-6 bananas
-3 lb bag Washington apples
-1 mini seedless watermelon
-5 yellow mangoes
-13 small white peaches
Not bad for $15!
I have had a few people asking about how to find a similar program in their city. If you don’t live in a Bountiful Basket city, try searching online for local food co-ops. You might be surprised with what you find!
Alysa! You have "inspired" Matt and I to try this out this week…Thanks!…May e-mail you some questions š
I got 3 HUGE butternut sqaush…already getting squashed out! I think I may just roat the rest of it and puree it and freeze to use for soup later on.
LOVE roasted brussel sprouts. And the girls did too because "Olivia, likes them!"
