Last week, our family took a day trip to Bisbee. Even though it is only a little more than an hour from our house, we had never before made the trek. The drive itself was beautiful with scenic mountain views and rolling desert plains. The town of Bisbee had first piqued my interest a couple years ago when I heard about a unique 5k race that is held there every October. At the time, I was pregnant and not about to train for a 5k. The Bisbee 1000 Stair Climb actually became my post-pregnancy goal last year as an incentive to get back in shape. Unfortunately, I became injured during my training and was unable to participate last year. I am hoping that with an increased focus on corrective exercise, I will be able to train and compete in this year’s race. The race is actually a 5k plus 1000 steps, making it 4.2 miles in total. The money raised for the stair climb goes to the organization “Save Our Stairs,” a non-profit group committed to preserving the historic stairs that serve as roads for many in Bisbee.
We even found a cowboy.
Wow! It looks beautiful and it seems yall had a great time. I've always wanted to go and have heard great things about Bisbee, but have yet to make it down that way. Maybe I will make it down there this Fall. Thanks for sharing the pics of your trip!
Thanks for the great post! We live in Bisbee and love it – it's nice when visitors "get it" and appreciate it. Hope you come for the Stair Climb – good luck!
One of my FAVE things in Bisbee is…this homeless-looking man who I have sen wandering around almost everytime I have been there. With him is his dog. Riding on the dog's back is a cat. And riding on the cat's back is…A MOUSE. They are all real and walk around on each other's backs. They are so cute! I wish I knew where my pics are from last timeI saw them…I will look. He carries a tip cup,and we always give him something….that is a hard act to train! I also love exploring the lobby/hotel/restaurant at the Copper Queen (it is haunted you know!)and I like eating at the little cafe at the Shady Dell…though I have never stayed there…I swear one day I will…it is sooooo amazingly retro!

We've never been either. Looks beautiful though! Was it any cooler than Tucson?!

PS LIke the new look of the blog!
Glad you all liked the post! It is definitely worth the trip.
Megan, I am so sad we didn't see the man with the mouse who rides a cat who rides a dog! Maybe next time.
Jess, it was a little cooler than Tucson. I think the altitude is over 5000 feet.
What a great post -Bisbee is a fun place, and there's always something fun to look at!
Look how stylish you are! You pulled off wearing those white shorts perfectly!

Thanks Stephanie, you are too funny! White shorts are a bit of a risk with kiddos, but I like them š
