This week I was so excited to discover a new pick-up site for our Bountiful Basket that is less than a mile from our house. How convenient! The time (7:00am) is a tad early for my liking, but I really can’t complain. Joe went with me and had a great time picking out the “perfect” basket. We loaded our produce and our friend Ashley‘s produce into the laundry basket. Boy was that basket was heavy!
When we got home, Joe helped me count out the fruit and vegetables so that we could split up our share and Ashley’s share. Ashley has been away all year because her husband plays professional baseball. She has been looking forward to ordering a Bountiful Basket for a few months now and was very happy with her first experience.
For $16.50, I ended up with:
-7 bananas
-5 oranges
-23 small plums
-9 peaches
-2 mangoes
-1 lb. champagne grapes
-8 small sweet potatoes
-1.5 lbs green beans
-2 heads broccoli
-1 head romaine
-1 bunch celery
-4 tomatoes
Ashley and I also split a box of mangoes as a $5.50 add-on. Our box had 8 mangoes, so we got 4 each. All of our mangoes were very ripe, so we ate some of them right away and froze the rest.
I have a few recipes in mind that I plan to try out from our haul this week including Ina Garten’s Parmesan Roasted Broccoli (thank you Big Mama for suggesting it) and my friend Emily’s Grilled Hobo Fruit Packs of Awesomeness (with a name like that, it has to be good). I am sure that I will also make Crispy Sweet Potato Oven Fries at some point too.
What are you making this week?
Aylsa- we made let mango leather fruit wraps with our mango. Two mangos makes one batch. It was fun and easy. I hope our new site location is here to stay. Crossing my fingers!
Take Care.

alysa – did you cut the mango up before you froze it? we've got so many that we aren't eating fast enough!
Jackie, fruit leather is such a great idea!
Sarah, cut the mango into chunks and spread out on a baking sheet. Pop it in the freezer. Once frozen, you can put the mango chunks into a ziploc bag.
That is a lot of produce! What a great way to show that produce can be fit into anyone's budget!!!
cool! thanks, alysa!
WOW! You guys got more than we did! Our veggies are nearly gone and it is only Monday…we only have green beans and the sweet potatoes left! We are finally getting the hang of eating everything before we get the next basket! The fruit seemed a bit under ripe although the 4 mangoes we got are ready to eat any time!
We also got the mango add on but we got 2…we make lots of smoothies! maybe we'll try some fruit leather as well Jackie!
