How do you move a door frame?

One thing I didn’t want to leave at our first house was the growth chart on the door frame of our study.  Those little pencil lines marking moments in time.  But how do you move a door frame?

We will probably be moving around quite a bit in the next few years…or longer, as a part of baseball life.  So we went to Home Depot and bought a board.  An 8-foot long piece of wood that will go where we go.  A portable growth chart.

Jeff and Joe transferred the existing marks onto the new board.

Then they made some new notches.

For some reason, Leila thought she had to touch her nose while being measured.

Crazy growth spurt below!

Now we can measure the kids wherever we go (as long as they don’t get taller than 8 feet).

How cute are your two? Adorable.

Although we're not moving anytime soon (in theory), I've had the same angst about the doorframe where we've marked Miles's growth. I was seriously considering removing that piece of wood, but yours in a much smarter idea!

LUV this idea. My husband and I have moved 6 times in the 12 years we've been married… our oldest is 4 1/2 & he's lived in FL, TX & now GA. I am definitely "borrowing" this idea!

My grandparents used masking tape for each of the 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, including all the step-grandkids! My brother, the oldest, is 40 and his is still on the wall, next to my 18 month old daughters. Some of the marks are faded and hard to read, but it's still such a sweet reminder…

    Your kids are adorable!!
