The 40 Days Water Challenge is almost over. I’ll just come right out and say I was less than perfect. I slipped up a few times. But, I was grateful to spend a few hours with the 40 Days bloggers at Blissdom where I learned that none of us were entirely perfect. (Phew.) And being perfect wasn’t the point anyways.
As Rachel put it so well, “This whole 40 Days of water experience isn’t about being perfect, it’s about being aware, being human, giving and experiencing and being in solidarity with those in Africa.”
It’s about taking a moment to pause before ordering a latte, realizing that denying myself a glass of wine won’t kill me, being more mindful of how I spend my money. It’s about whispering “thank you” when I turn on the faucet to wash my hands. It’s about doing more than saying “bless their hearts” when I hear about the women and children walking hours each day for less than pure water and actually putting my money where my mouth is.
My mind has been blown, my heart has been wrecked, my perspective has shifted.
I’m thankful for the experience, and I would ask, whether you have participated or not, would you give up a drink today? For those who have given money, even $1, thank you. You have literally given the gift of life to someone. On behalf of all of us, on behalf of the voiceless, thank you.
You’re awesome!
