Two years ago my health was at it’s worst. One year ago I painfully walked a 5k for charity. Saturday I finally had my comeback race. The one I had been waiting for. And you know what? It felt good. Really good.
Nine of us ran, climbed, waded, dove and slid through 3 miles of dirt and mud as “Team Inspired” in the LoziLu Women’s Mud Run. We finished filthy, bruised, and bleeding. I don’t think anyone knew it as I crossed the finish line, but my eyes welled with tears as I thought about what I’ve been through the past five years. There were times when I didn’t think I would ever be healthy again.
And the truth is, I’m not 100% yet. I still have healing to do. But this race was a milestone for me. A fun, filthy milestone. I’m thankful for the friends who got muddy with me, and I’m so grateful to the people at LoziLu for asking me to put a team together. This was perfect timing.
As we hosed ourselves off in the “shower”, we all agreed this should be an annual thing. I hope you’ll join us next year.
The bruises are totally worth it.

A huge congrats Alysa. Looks like it was a blast. Wishing you continued healing, health and happiness. You deserve it.
Looks like a great race & so glad you’re healthy enough to get dirty & bruised 😉 I’m entering your giveaway b/c I love running for a cause, and this seems like a cheap way to get a mud facial treatment, to boot.
Congratulations! What an amazing accomplishment. I’ve seen other mud runs and would like to do one soon, but this seems even better without the testosterone!!
There isn’t a LoziLu run near me, but if I win I will give the entry to someone who can use it… And I’ll hope for a run in the PacNW soon!
This post made me cry as I am still in the middle of journeying towards health. I was just thinking this morning that it will be strange to be back to myself…working out, leading, investing. I’m looking forward to it. I’m so glad you had a meaningful and fun race! You continue to inspire, Alysa! Love you!
O that’s so cool you got to do it!! I’m waiting on responses from friends but we could totally do the LA one in a few weeks! Would be relying on that training to whip us into “ready” that quick, ha! 🙂 Sounds and looks like a blast though…it’s exciting to consider!
…because is sounds like a blast!
Cograts on the run!!! I did one before but it was very competitive. I would love to do one and just have fun!
I cannot believe that I am actually willing to try this!!!! YAY!
Great Job! This looks like so much fun. One of my goals this year is to runs 5k and this looks like a fun way to do it.
