There is something stirring in the air, can you feel it? A mighty wind blowing through our homes, our schools, our churches. An awakening of the spirit, a million tiny little whispers that make the heart beat faster. Moms rising up to fight injustice, bloggers tackling adoption ethics, young people refusing to settle into a comfortable American life.
Do justice. Love mercy. Walk humbly. – It’s not just a bumper sticker bible verse. This is where life, real fruitful energizing life, is found. No longer satisfied with just “doing something,” our generation wants to make sure our something is really something.
Helpful, not hurtful. Loving, not pitying. Lasting, not fleeting.
Go ahead, get swept up into the something.
Join us as we learn from and inspire each other. Join the conversation of human care.
Here are a few excerpts from the Idea Camp bloggers:
That You Love One Another by Dan King
It finally clicked for me that when Jesus says, “that you love one another,” He’s talking about all of those one-on-one moments with real people. With real people in Kenya. With real people in Haiti. With real people in Sarasota, FL. With real people in my workplace. With real people at the grocery store.
On Caring for the Human Story by Elora Ramirez –
These two situations have left me with this: stories, however broken or fleeting, always trump force. Don’t tell me if you’re right. Don’t tell me I’m wrong. Do sit with me and wrestle through our stories together because then I see a taste of the Church as it’s meant to be: broken but living out something beautiful in our strengths. Because even if we disagree, if you’re willing to hold my story in your hand with care it covers all the petty nuances of faith.
Managing Me: 6 Choices to a No-Regrets Life by Steve Graves –
Life has so many things that clamor for our attention. There are lots of good things to focus on, and there are also lots of seeming crises that shout at us. In my experience, though, the key to living a life with no regrets is focusing on the right gauges…As Socrates said, “Let him who would move the world first move himself.”
Motivated by Love by Ashlee Heiligman
We were welcomed with open arms into tiny shacks, made of scrap metal and wood pieces. Some had tarps to keep out the rain while others had leaky, thatched roofs. They prepared their finest feast, which probably cost more than an entire week of food for their family. Children shrilled with laughter as their fathers tickled them on the floor. Mothers teased their kids playfully and more often than not, love seemed to overflow each home. The most mischievous of boys at the drop-in center, were polite and respectful with their parents near. Without any riches of which to boast, they were each other’s most valuable possession.
Loving People First by Logan Wolram
My heart is learning to love without boundaries. My life is bending towards helping others learn to do the same. And my travel plans for this year include a meeting of like-minded, and like-hearted people in September in Austin, TX for the Idea Camp.
“We will facilitate fresh, honest and transformative conversations with leading thinkers and practitioners on topics including how the church cares for the vulnerable, the other and self while unpacking how differences of gender, race, mental health, and age influence our approach. Our desire is to live life as God’s loving expressions of grace and hope to our world through tangible acts of care for all of humanity.”
Yes…that. And I can’t help but wonder, and be excited by how much we can begin to change the world by each being the one that we are called to be, and banding with others who are walking in their callings as well. Strength in numbers, power in connecting, and a group moving together to bring change. A sandstorm doesn’t make a difference if it’s only composed of 1 grain….but hundreds of grains, thousands of grains in motion together can change a landscape entirely.
Join us un September at The Idea Camp as we gather to encourage, inspire, and have conversations to put into motion more effective, and practical ways to not just live differently, but to love differently.
{What kind of conversation will we be having this September? Check out this video to see Charles Lee and others talk about Idea Camp: Human Care in Austin, TX on Sept 20, 21. http://vimeo.com/67671140 Click here to register: http://www.theideacamp.com/.}
