Recipe for Sweet and Spicy Pumpkin Fries

Welcome to this month’s Recipe ReDux Roundup where the theme is “Fresh from the Pumpkin Patch”.  I can’t wait to check out all of the pumpkin recipes we’ve gathered up.  They all sound so good!

Sweet & Spicy Pumpkin Fries Recipe

I decided to use fresh pumpkin for my recipe, and the inspiration came from Kate at Gluten Free Gobsmacked.  She made pumpkin fries last week, and I thought it sounded like a perfect idea!  Because I love making sweet & spicy seeds in the fall, I thought the same combo could go right onto the pumpkin itself.  The result was a very spicy and slightly sweet side dish that Jeff and I both enjoyed.  I saved a few of the fries for the kids and only coated them with maple syrup.  They gobbled them up!

Sweet & Spicy Pumpkin Fries Recipe

Sweet & Spicy Pumpkin Fries

Ingredients

  • 1 pie pumpkin peeled, seeded and cut into ½ inch fries
  • 1 Tbsp. pure maple syrup
  • 1 Tbsp. Sriracha less if you don't want as much spice

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray large baking sheet with oil. Toss pumpkin fries, maple syrup and Sriracha in a large bowl. Arrange in single layer on baking sheet. Roast for 35 minutes, flipping fries halfway through. Enjoy with a glass of water close by.

  • Emma Stirling (@EmmaStirling) October 22, 2011 at 12:48 am

    Alysa
I had the exact same idea but was worried they would not keep together as pumpkin flseh tends to go mushy when baked or roasted. Were they ok to pick up like fries? Do yu think you could leave the skin on in sections?
    Emma

    • inspiredrd October 22, 2011 at 8:43 am

They weren’t too mushy to pick up. Kind of similar to sweet potato fries.

Sounds delicious. I never would have thought of pumpkin fries. So tell me, how hard is it to cut a pumpkin for serving?

    • inspiredrd October 24, 2011 at 12:23 pm

The hardest part is the peeling. I did it with a paring knife. Other than that, not too bad!

  • Melanie October 24, 2011 at 2:33 pm

my husband and I LOVE Sriracha sauce and I think that would make this recipe a definite winner. What a great use of pumpkin! How do you think it would work for other types of squash?
