Let me just start this post by saying:
Hi, My name is Alysa, and I have posted Selfies. I’ve done it. You’ve done it. We all do it. But how much is too much?
How many times have I posted a selfie just to maybe (hopefully) get a compliment or two. How many times was I searching for an ego-boost or sympathy? How many times have I posted my selfie in black and white so my skin looks better? (Answer: Every time.)
Did you know that over 1 million selfies are posted every day on social media?
Did you know that selfies lead to decreased intimacy and more shallow relationships?
Did you know that the selfie trend is leading to more plastic surgery? (And even a new term called “selfie surgery.”) (Yep.)
These selfies don’t seem to be helping our self-esteem much.
The more selfies we post, the closer we get to living self-obsessed lives, and the farther we get from living in true community.
That’s why I love #TheUsProject from Soffe. It’s not only a wake up call, but a call to action. Let’s replace the “me” with “we” and build each other up. Because together we can make a more beautiful picture.
