We just finished up a long but energizing day in Ethiopia. I only got about 5 hours of sleep last night, but it didn’t matter because today was the day to meet our sponsored children. I’m trying to gather my thoughts enough to tell you about it, but first let me share some of my favorite photos from the day. I dare you not to fall in love with these…
Let me just start by saying that I feel MUCH better today. I think the jet lag has finally worn off. I’m so thankful for that because now I can really focus on what we’re seeing and the people we’re meeting. This morning we woke up to a fierce thunderstorm. I immediately thought of the families we met yesterday and wondered if they were ok. I remembered Meseret telling us…
Yesterday we left the capital city of Addis Ababa and headed to the town of Zeway. The 3-hour drive was absolutely beautiful. We saw green mountains, miles of farmland, huts and stick houses, donkeys and goats, and even a monkey darting across the road. Once in Zeway, we visited the FH office and learned a little more about the programs and about the people we were going to meet. I’m…
Good morning from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia! Holy moly, was that a long day of travel. I woke up at 5 am to head to the airport in Phoenix. We arrived at our hotel in Addis about 31 hours later. Well, this morning I am getting on the first of three airplanes that will take me and an entire team over to Ethiopia to answer those questions and…
As my friend Emily would say, 3 more sleeps until Africa! It’s pretty hard for me to think of anything else at this point. I’ve packed my suitcase, am getting my backpack ready, and today I scored a sweet fanny pack at Goodwill. Yep, a real live fanny pack. I want to be able to have a few things with me during the day, including gluten-free snacks and a water…
We’re less than a week away from the big trip, which means that I am spending almost every waking minute thinking about what I need to do to get ready. Last night I took my first malaria pill. I’ll take one every week for 7 weeks. I’ve taken these once before, and I remembered that they can give you some pretty vivid dreams. Last night was no exception. I didn’t…
