Thankful Thursdays: Week 9

water faucet

I was standing in a selfishly long hot shower last night when it hit me just how much I take clean water for granted.  I thought back to how many times during the day that I used water from some sort of tap.

-Wake up, take a drink of water
-Brush my teeth
-Wash my face
-Pour a cup of coffee (made with clean water)
-Wash my hands
-Clean the breakfast plates
-Start the dishwasher
-Do a load of laundry
-Wash my hands
-Fill up the kids’ water cups
-Fill my water bottle
-Wash up produce for lunch
-Wash kids’ hands for lunch
-Wash up lunch plates
-Grab another glass of water
-Wash up produce for dinner
-Wash all of our hands
-Wash up dinner plates
-Take a ridiculously long shower

It’s a long list, and I’m sure I missed some.

The more I thought about it, I just had to stop and thank God that our basic needs are always met.  We have more than enough food to eat, a warm and safe home to live in, clothes and shoes to wear, medicine when we need it, and always clean water.  We may not be rich as Americans often define it (and certainly not as those in the baseball world would define it), but taking a step back to look at our situation makes me realize that we are so rich.

The more I give thanks, the more I realize that the list is never-ending.  These everyday blessings are humbling me.  My icky pride is slowly being chipped away.

I feel like I have more to say, but the words are jumbled around so I’ll leave it at that for now.
