You all seemed to have a lot of fun laughing learning about me on my birthday last year, so I thought we could try it again.
1. I am 34 years old today.
2. I have more than 34 grey hairs on my head.
3. My husband has 534 grey hairs on his head. I’m winning.
4. I’m competitive.
5. I would rather do 100 loads of laundry than clean the bathroom.
6. I’m a crockpot. If you ask me a question and I’m quiet for a few minutes, it’s because I’m processing things slowly and carefully. I promise I’m not ignoring you.
7. Sometimes I wish I could take a vacation from my brain (it’s so loud in here!).
8. I spend way too much time dwelling in the land of “mommy guilt.”
9. I am a hoarder of thrifted afghans.
10. I still have my overalls and Birkenstocks from high school. Please let me know when it’s cool to wear them again.
11. I wish we would all stop comparing ourselves to each other.
12. I’m an introvert.
13. Wine is my love language.
14. One of my biggest strengths is cheerleading. Not actual cheerleading (I couldn’t do the splits to save my life), but seeing someone doing something awesome and telling the world about it. (How can I cheer you on?)
15. I wish I could travel the world without leaving my house.
16. I love tattoos but don’t have any of my own.
17. I’m a shover-inner. If it doesn’t fit, I just shove until it does.
18. I can’t float on my back. My legs always sink.
19. Sometimes I have a mean look on my face and don’t realize it. I’m really just lost in thought. I’m not a snob, I promise.
20. I own two guitars and don’t know how to play them.
21. I wish I was turning 21 so I could be done with this list.
22. I’m a rule-follower so I will finish this list, even if it takes me all night.
23. Baseball feels like home to me.
24. I miss fireflies and cool summer nights with the attic fan running.
25. My smile is off-centered. When I had braces, I was missing an adult tooth, so they pulled all of my back teeth forward to fill in the gap. This pulled my smile slightly off center. (Now you are all going to stare at me when I smile, aren’t you?)
26. The veins on the back of my right hand form an “A”. That’s kind of weird, right?
27. If you come over to hang out and my house is messier than usual, it just means we’re becoming better friends.
28. Jeff proposed to me on a baseball field. In January. In Oklahoma. It was freezing and awesome.
29. I miss being spontaneous with food.
30. I realize that having celiac disease is not the end of the world, but every once in a while it feels like it.
31. Nothing delights me like a good nap.
32. I love banjo music. Love.
33. My front porch is where flowers go to die.
34. I’m glad I don’t look like this anymore. —–>

I loved my overalls too but didn’t keep them! Saw this the other week…think you will be excited to wear them again!
I love it! Although my overalls aren’t that cute I’m afraid…
Re: #19…Anna Paquin was on one of the late night shows a couple weeks ago and talked about her “bitchy resting face” and how she really isn’t a snob, but her face just doesn’t look friendly when she isn’t actively smiling. I got a total kick out of it because I’m pretty sure I suffer from the same problem. Smiling photos of me? sure, bring it. Candid photos? Uh oh!
Did you see the video? Hilarious. Totally me. My husband said, “That is YOU!”
I was just watching that video on youtube today! I actually had someone in college tell me they never talked to me in high school b/c I always looked mad!
Oh no! I’ve had people come up to me after getting to know me and say they thought I was mean or snobby because of my resting face. Darn it!
Sometimes I think my facial expressions make me seem either like a B or a snob also, and I am not either (at least I don’t want to be and hope I’m not).
Have you seen the video “Resting B* Face?” Hilarious (but I didn’t post because LANGUAGE)
My wife suffers from #8 as well. But from what I’ve seen on this website, in your blog posts, and on your Twitter account, you have *nothing* to feel guilt over. You are a wonderful mommy, from what I can gather. Just like my wife is.
Okay. Now, for your birthday present. Something nobody else knows about me. Hmmm…..?
I’ve always wanted to work for a 3-letter government agency (FBI, NSA, CIA, etc.)
Love that Chris, I can totally see that. Secret Agent Man…
Happ Birthday Alys!! I enjoyed reading your list and let me tell you that I’m impressed that you came up with 34 things because coming up with one to post here was difficult 🙂 One thing not many people know about me is that I am a very routine person. I can totally relate to kids with autism in the sense that I get very frazzled when something changes my routine. Getting our Great Dane was a HUGE adjustment for me and it took a good two months for me to get used to having him here and establishing a new routine. I love my dog but I hated the change. So I work hard to be flexible and I make that a priority, especially at work because I believe it’s part of being considerate which I think is so very important. So happy birthday dear sister. Hope it’s a good one!! Love you!
Thanks so much! Pets and kids are really good at messing up routine. Glad you are embracing it 🙂
Happy birthday!!! Mine is just a few days away, so I thought I would join in the fun…
I am a horrible procrastinator. I discovered in high school that I wrote my best papers under pressure, so since then I put off major deadlines to the last minute!
ME TOO! I work best under pressure. And happy early birthday 🙂
I can’t sing but I love to do it anyway.
Happy birthday! Hope I get to see you SOON!
Yeah girl, sing LOUD and PROUD! Hope to see you soon too…
Oh great list, so true and very good. hmmmm about myself…I’d shovel snow in my drive way rather than clean a toilet. I talk to my friends about playing in a big game of poker, but truth be told, I’m sure to loose…I have the worlds worst poker face 😉
My wife is # 31 Fridays to Sundays and is a hoarder of crackers. If you need a flavor we got em
Oh man, I have the WORST poker face. I can’t help smiling.
Happy Birthday!!! Something people don’t know about me is that in my head and in the privacy of my own home I am a Broadway star who performs everyday to my captive audience (kids). In my head I also have won an Oscar,Tony,Grammy and Emmy.
Awesome! What is your favorite show to perform?
I LOVED your list! (And I’m with you on #13.)
I usually hover whenever I use a public restroom, and I always flush with my foot.
Happy Birthday, Alysa! I’m so thankful you are in my life!
I’m so thankful for you too, friend. Cheers 🙂
Happy Birthday Alysa!
I love your post! I am an introvert too and thus I so much relate to your crockpot comment!
Things most people don’t know about me is that I have a NEED to have things organized and clutter free! My husband hates it when I watch “Hoarding Buried Alive” because then I declutter even more:)
Ha! Hilarious. I let clutter take over until I can’t stand it anymore, and then I go into a cleaning frenzy!
Wait…Wine is my love language too!! No wonder we are friends 😉
Love this post and happy birthday!
Woohoo! Wine buddies 🙂
Happy Birthday! I love reading your list–so fun! 🙂
Something you don’t know about me…hmmm…………
I have a birthmark on the inside of my upper left thigh. It used to embarrass me, but today I barely notice it. 🙂
I’ve never noticed it 🙂
Happy Birthday, Alysa!!! Hope your day has been lovely!!
Since you & many people I know met me after high school, you wouldn’t know that I used to have a dark brown mole on the top of my right arm at the elbow; it was the size of a pea & everyone got grossed out by it (try being a secure girl with that kind of teasing!) – but when I had my appendix taken out, my wonderful surgeon (whom I now work for, ironically) took it off while I was already under for surgery! I’m quite thankful for having that sick appendix to this day. 😉
Wow, what a great thing! Thanks for sharing, Sarah 🙂
I am a saver. If you give me something, even if its insignificant, there’s a good chance I will keep it forever. (I still have letters that people wrote to me in grade school).
Aw, that’s sweet. I’m sure your mom loves all of your “savings”… 🙂
Happy Birthday! I love your list. Hmmm something about me… I found out while training for a triathlon two summers ago that I have a fear of putting my face in the water while swimming. I have to hold my head out which by the way really slows you down. Weird because I jump off the diving board on our own pool all the time but I can’t swim on the surface with my face in the water. Again… Weird.
Oh my goodness, the only reason I haven’t considered training for one is because I struggle with the same thing! I think for me it’s about not feeling like I get a full breath each time.
When I eat, I always make sure that I finish everything at the exact same time. So, if I were eating a sandwich, chips, and an apple, I’d time it so that the last bite I take of the sandwich will also be the last chip I eat and the last slice of apple.
These kind of posts are my FAVORITE! I loved overalls all through middle school. I distinctly remember a pair of chocolate brown ones that I wore frequently. Wish I would have kept them…just for kicks.
Happy 34th!
Happy belated birthday!
I am also an introvert who suffers from BRF. lol I don’t even realize it until someone asks me if I’m angry about something and I’m like, “Um, no?”
[…] For my last two birthdays I have posted a fact about myself for each year I’ve been alive. (33 Things About Me & 34 Things About Me) […]
