We are finishing up our three month stay in Missoula, Montana this week. If you follow me on Instagram, you know how sad I am to leave this beautiful place. The weather, the people, the active lifestyle, and of course the gorgeous scenery has won us over big time.
In case you’re ever in the area, I wanted to share some of my favorite spots for gluten-free food. This isn’t an exhaustive list, just what I found and liked in our short time here. Feel free to add anything I missed in the comments!
Grocery Shopping:
The Good Food Store – I might miss this place most of all. Not only do they carry my favorite gluten-free brands, but almost all of their produce is organic and local.
Missoula Farmers Market – Tons of fresh produce and flowers, and a gluten-free baker (see below).
Clark Fork Market – I love this market because it’s right between the river and downtown, so there is lots to do. Plus, they have gluten-free donuts, a tamale truck (100% gluten-free!) and rhubarb slushies.
Restaurants:
The Mustard Seed – Kind of similar to a P.F. Changs, they do gluten-free really well.
MacKenzie River Pizza Company – I was nervous to try out a pizza place, but my server was a fellow celiac (score!) and they took great care with my meal.
Biga Pizza – I didn’t make it to Biga Pizza, but their handling process seems to be the same as MacKenzie River Pizza, so I think it’s worth a try.
Five on Black – I’m so mad at myself for not finding this restaurant until late in the summer. It is my absolute favorite! Kind of like a Chipotle, but with interesting flavors like curried sweet potatoes, spicy coconut sauce, and spicy chimichurri. Plus, everything is gluten-free!
Baked Goods:
Tandem Donuts at the Clark Fork Market (and various stores around town) – Incredible gluten-free donuts. Such a treat. Get to the market early before they sell out!
Tilted Halo Gluten-Free Baked Goods at the Missoula Farmers Market – Cookies, muffins and sandwich breads. My favorite are the sesame sandwich rolls. Delicious!
