You know when I feel the most run down? The most anxious? The most stuck?
When my life has no margins.
To have margins means to be thoughtful in scheduling. Not living a life so busy that everything is back-to-back-to-back-to-back.
To have margins means making time for breathers throughout the day, or if it is a non-negotiable busy season, making time for breathers throughout the week and month.
Making time for margins can also mean letting go of perfection. Taking time to rest even when the house is a mess. (Yes I just said that.)
Because this is where rejuvenation is found. This is where the creative cup is refilled.
Life is found in the margins.
Breath is found when we take time for breathing.
Yes joy and peace can exist in the busy, but oh how they overflow when pockets of time are reserved for rest.
This past weekend I put down the phone, closed the social media tabs, and took some much needed deep breaths.
In the margins of my day, I started a new book, finished a stitching project that had been collecting dust, and went on adventures with my family.
Sometimes I need time away from my phone, sometimes I need time away from the noise, sometimes I just need to take a nap.
Today my margin allows me to sit and write this.
When you find yourself creatively, spiritually, physically tapped out, try to fit a few more margins into your schedule.
There is joy and peace to be found here.
Love this. Sometimes it is so hard to let go of perfection but if perfection is our goal then we’ll never be happy or feel fulfilled! Thanks for this nice reminder!

I related to your post. For the past month, I have had the ringer on my phone turned off and have not checked my gmail (still check my outlook b/c that’s business). Life can get overwhelming with day to day personal contact, throw in social media and it can be too much.
Feels nice to step back from the noise, doesn’t it?
