Lately there seems to be a common theme among women my age. The idea that social media has taken what once was enough and turned it into a guilt-filled rat race that we can never win.
As my friends and I sit in living rooms with mugs of coffee hashing out what it means to be “enough” in today’s world, I noticed many bloggers writing out of the same emotionally-charged place. My own post, “Follow me…or don’t” seemed to hit a nerve too.
I wanted to share some wise words from fellow bloggers to remind you that 1) You are not alone in this, and 2) You are enough.
Read some of their thoughts, then tell me, how often do you rest in the fact that you are enough? How do you pull yourself out of the comparison rat race?
How to Free Yourself from the Fear of Missing Out – Sarah Markley
“We’re never really ‘missing out’ because we’re exactly who we need to be and where we need to be.”
Being Enough – Beki at The Rusted Chain
“You are enough. Not because you did or said or thought or bought or created something special, but just because you always were.”
17 Modern Myths That Are Making Motherhood Miserable – Beth Berry at Revolution from Home
“How can this be? How can such a wealth of information be both increasing our understanding AND decreasing our sense of self-worth?
It’s quite simple, really. Our brains aren’t wired for this much intake. We’re suffering not from actual inadequacy, but from a false sense of ourselves that has reached epidemic proportions.”
You Know How I Wasn’t Invited? – Lindsey Nobles
“I knew you were just doing your thing. I knew that you must feel left out sometimes too. And I knew I had inflicted, and will continue to inflict, this same pain, like you, unknowingly {let’s be honest…it’s unavoidable}.
But it’s okay now. I remembered.
It’s okay because I remembered I am enough.
You Are Enough – Shauna Niequist
“You. Yes, you. Wherever you’re reading this–in your office, or on your phone as you nurse a baby. If you’re in your dorm room or in between meetings or stealing a few quiet moments before the kids get home. You–yes, you–are enough.”
A great collection of quotes on being “enough!” Thank you for collecting and sharing!
I’ve pulled myself out of the comparison rat race by taking a break from my social media accounts. And I’m loving it. I don’t need to know what everyone else is doing 24/7. I feel a lot freer to do what I wish. Before if I saw someone on fb or instagram skiing with friends, on a luxe holiday, buying a big home, it made me feel like I was not doing enough in my own life to “keep up’ with everyone else. Putting my social media accounts on hold was like dropping a big heavy weight in my life. It was just what I needed to re-focus on my own life & family. If I hear news directly from a friend, great!
Thank you for sharing! This was so needed and exactly what I needed to hear TODAY. I have been struggling with this lately. Thank you, Alysa!
Oh good. Yay for good timing!

WOW! Finding this website, was meant to be…It reminds me of “channel surfing” on television and stopping at the right channel at the right time, on an item that either I hadn’t seen in a while or had never seen–that peeked my interest, or ‘spoke’ to me and I stopped to view what was at hand…Ah!, these quotes and responses are ‘spot-on’ and address the encouragement that I needed to ‘not feel alone’, that “being enough” is an inclusion–not an exclusion!! Thank you all very much for these God-sent revelations!!
Thank you, so glad you stopped by 🙂
