Thankful Thursdays: Week 16

Last month it hurt me to walk a 5k.  A few months before that, it hurt me to turn over in bed.  Last Friday I ran for 20 minutes and felt great.  I am so thankful.

You should have seen the look on my chiropractor’s face yesterday when I told him that I had run for 20 minutes.  I think his exact words were, “What are you trying to do to me?”  I don’t blame him, he has worked tirelessly along with the massage therapist and nurse practitioner to get me to a pain-free place.  The last thing he wants me to do is push it too hard and hurt myself again.

The new plan is to start with 15 minutes and add 10% each week.  So yesterday I got on the treadmill and did what I never thought I would do, stare at the clock and wish for the time to go slower.  I mean, is that opposite of normal or what?  Usually I cover the clock up with a towel so that I’m not tortured by the seconds slowly ticking away.  Yesterday I stared straight at it not wanting my running time to end.

I guess you can say that I’ve found a new appreciation for having a body that can run.  I’m not back 100% but I’m so much better than I have been in a long time.  Thank you Dr. Warren for your hard work and much needed voice of reason when I’m ready to go full speed out of the gate.

I’m thankful for connecting with inspiring people like you and I’m thankful for having another day to celebrate life.

The latest thing that I’m thankful for is realizing that your previous post is about Collard Chips. I’m intrigued and totally checking that out.

Congrats on the run! I’m definitely thankful for my family, and for their support of me in everything I do.

I am thankful to be running. A year ago I was walking using a walker because I hurt my back. Now in just a few months I have achieved many running firsts!

I’m thankful for the Insanity DVD workouts . . . and my almost-two-year-olds attempts to workout with me. She keeps a smile on my face when I’m about to throw in the towel.
