What does “local” mean to a gypsy like me?

I met my husband Jeff in college a few weeks before he signed a professional baseball contract. He spent seven years working his way up the minor league ladder with a few cups of coffee in the big leagues, and I was right there by his side. We moved around. A lot. Five moves in one year was typical. And every time he was promoted, I would have to start…

5 Ways to Add Peace to Your Day

When I think about finding peace, I tend to jump to the big ideas like spending a few days in the mountains, getting a massage, or drowning myself in spiritual music.  But I don’t often have time or money for that.  So how do I weave peace into my day-to-day life? Letting rest and peace and quiet fall. My brain races. Ideas pop, deadlines flash, iPhone beckons. Just one more email, one last scroll through instagram, one last tweet. I recently started…

Undoing Disease

This is a hard post to write. Not because the subject is difficult, but because celiac disease is literally attacking my brain right now. Microscopic amounts of gluten have slipped into my system twice (I think) in the past two weeks, and my brain is having a hard time processing words. It’s having an even harder time spitting them out in a coherent manner. Contrary to popular belief, gluten doesn’t…
