Whole 30 and Homeschool

Today we start a new Whole 30 challenge which requires lots of planning, grocery shopping, cooking, and organizing. Oh, and we start homeschool too. We are nothing short of overachievers around here. (Send help.) I’ll be doing the modified low-FODMAP plan, and I guess that means Jeff will be too since I’m the one who does most of the cooking around here. While I don’t know if the Whole 30…

Just because I’m good at it, doesn’t mean it’s easy

When friends describe me, the term “laid back” is often used. I’m pretty easygoing. Not much of a planner. I like to go with the flow. According to StrengthsFinder, one of my top five strengths is adaptability. As a baseball wife, this comes in handy. Jeff’s job is year-to-year. We don’t have a permanent residence. Since getting married twelve years ago, we’ve moved too many times to count. We love…

It’s a lot harder to be awesome when you’re trying to be someone else.

Have you ever noticed how much harder it is to be awesome when you’re trying to be someone else? Are we listening?

This week I haven’t said much on social media because I’ve been too busy reading stories. Too busy listening. Trying to understand. Putting myself in other people’s shoes. So I read and I listen to people who’ve been there. Because as much as I…

Thoughts on depression.

I’ve been coming across some incredible posts on depression and suicide since the tragic death of Robin Williams. I wanted to share some of them with you. Please feel free to leave comments with other links you have found helpful this week. Thoughts on depression, suicide, and being a Christian by Nish Weiseth But there’s another kind of evil lurking around the halls of the depressed, and it’s the belief…

Better Than the Last

One of the best pieces of parenting advice I’ve ever received came from the friend who I turn to often for wisdom and guidance. The friend who cuts through the craziness of mom guilt and bad advice and gets right to the core of what is important. When my babies were babies, and I started to lament that they wouldn’t be babies forever, my friend Angel told me not to…

What does “local” mean to a gypsy like me?

I met my husband Jeff in college a few weeks before he signed a professional baseball contract. He spent seven years working his way up the minor league ladder with a few cups of coffee in the big leagues, and I was right there by his side. We moved around. A lot. Five moves in one year was typical. And every time he was promoted, I would have to start…
