This Week’s Bounty

This week’s Bountiful Basket sure was a heavy one!  I had both kids with me in the stroller, and I was picking up a friend’s basket.  Thankfully, one of the volunteers helped me pack up and carry everything. -1 watermelon -1 large bag red grapes -1 pint blueberries -6 bananas -6 pluots -3 peaches -1 pineapple -2 long cucumbers -2 tomatoes -1 head romaine lettuce -2 heads green cauliflower -5…

This Week’s Bounty

This week’s Bountiful Basket was awesome!  Because this week was a “Week B,” I arrived about fifteen minutes prior to pick-up time to get in line.  The line is extra long on “B” weeks because there are fewer locations hosting baskets.  From my spot in line, I was able to see what extras got into each basket so I chose one with extra grapes.  Score!  I was also excited to…

This Week’s Bounty

After last week’s gigantic haul, this week’s basket seemed to be a little lean in the veggie department.  Of course, it was still a great value for only $16.50.  Here’s what we got: -2 bags green grapes (1 bag was our extra from volunteering) -1  pint blueberries -8 bananas -5 oranges -7 nectarines -1 cantaloupe -1 bunch white asparagus -1 pint cherry tomatoes -2 yellow squash -1 head romaine lettuce…

Volunteering at the Co-op

Pretty Peas

The organic peas from our Bountiful Basket are so beautiful and delicious, I had to share some photos of them.  After helping me shuck some of them, Joe grabbed a handful of raw peas and ran off to enjoy them outside.  I steamed the rest for dinner in a steamer basket for a few minutes.  They were fresh and delicious, so I didn’t add any oil or seasoning.  If you…

This Week’s Bounty

This week, when I picked up my Bountiful Basket, I noticed a white plastic grocery bag in the vegetable basket. I opened it up and found big beautiful brussels sprouts!  Excited, I said “Yes!  Brussels sprouts!”  Looking shocked, the lady next to me said, “Really?”  Yes, I know brussels sprouts are maybe the most hated vegetable.  But I want to challenge you to prepare them in the way that most…
