I pulled into the garage and felt a gush of water. It felt like my water had broken, but it wasn’t your birthday. In fact, I was only 9 weeks pregnant with you. Shaking, I ran into the house calling for your daddy to come get Joe out of the car. When I saw the blood, I cried and whispered, “It’s happening again.” I thought you were gone. We left…
To keep on track with my goal to read 50 books this year, I started a monthly posting series titled “What I’m Reading.” As I share what I’ve been keeping on my nightstand, I would love to hear what you’ve been digging into as well. Scroll down to the bottom and leave a comment. What have you been reading lately? Here are the books I read in March: 14. The Fringe Hours…
Lately there seems to be a common theme among women my age. The idea that social media has taken what once was enough and turned it into a guilt-filled rat race that we can never win. As my friends and I sit in living rooms with mugs of coffee hashing out what it means to be “enough” in today’s world, I noticed many bloggers writing out of the same emotionally-charged place. My own…
One of my goals for 2015 was to simplify my closet. I wasn’t sure if this would mean getting rid of more stuff or putting together an actual capsule wardrobe. My first reaction was to sigh in annoyance. So I was surprised when I caught myself sighing in gratitude. I started to think about what would have to happen for my house to be spotless. It…
Last week, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics announced a partnership between Kraft and Kids Eat Right. Specifically that the Kids Eat Right logo will now appear on packages of Kraft American Singles. The Academy has fully denied that this is an endorsement of a product, even though Kraft told The New York Times that it totally is. According to AND, the logo simply shows that Kraft is a proud supporter of…
This morning we dug our hands into the soil, pulling beets and carrots from their hiding places, clipping rainbow chard and kale from overgrown stalks. Arriving home, I threw everything in the sink and started my least favorite part of gardening, the washing and drying and trimming and trying-not-to-get-too-much-dirt-on-the-floor part. As I ran cold water over the lacinto kale, light caught in glittery pools of water on the underside of each leaf, and…
